Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the actors in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, have been engaged in custody battle for a long time now. This ex-couple, who had been married for only two years, could easily give the I-have-been-there-done-that talk to aspiring celebrity ex-couples.
It’s been over two years since Angelina Jolie first filed for divorce in September, 2016. Twenty Hours after the divorce had been made public, a distraught Brad, in reaction to the divorce, had told reporters that he was very saddened about the divorce, but what mattered most was the well-being of their kids: Maddox Jolie-Pitt, Pax Jolie-Pitt, Zahara Jolie Pitt, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, and twins Knox Jolie-Pitt and Vivienne Jolie Pitt.
Of course, the couples have had a pretty tough custody battle over their six kids. Angelina Jolie had first sought the court to grant her physical custody of the kids and to give Brad visitation rights only.
But in a later turn of events, in November 2018, Angelina dropped the petition in court, and conceded to more agreeable terms, which remain confidential. According to her, this is “to protect the best interests of the kids”.
But, at the time, sources close to the family disclosed that Brad was not completely pleased with the new terms. In an interview, one source disclosed that the arrangements were not permanent and the couple still had a long road ahead.
However further events show that the new arrangement has afforded Brad more time with the kids. On his birthday, in December of 2018, some of the kids spent the night with Brad. According to an insider, it was the first time they had spent the night with Brad since the divorce.
There has been talk that the couple have taken steps to resolve their differences, although they do not always agree on everything. They’ve begun a weekly therapy to help them in their interactions, especially as it relates to decisions affecting the kids.
The new steps to peace by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are commendable and hopefully, it will be permanent.
